FINE ESTATE AND ANTIQUE AUCTION FINDS

 Les and I went to a Fine Estate and Antique Auction. The word "fine" means everything is more expensive! Hah! Well, at least that is the way it turned out! The treasures were from an Estate in a well known exclusive suburb. That should have been the clue right there. But the word, fine, clinched it! Oh well, we found some fun things even though I had to let go of some others.

 I know some people are over the interest in old rolling pins. But I found so many interesting ways on Pinterest to repurpose them that I bought several of them along with other old handmade wooden tools. They are mostly handmade circa 1900. Apparently the family were antique dealers as the prices and descriptions were on some of the pieces...$55 for the antique water dipper burl above. And $50 for the butter mold below. But now you can get them for, not $55, but the incredibly low price of...just kidding...It will be way lower than that but I won't say here...

Then I purchased a box of linen..

A beautiful cut work tablecloth and crewel work material. I might make some pillows out of this material ...

And last but not least, I purchased this pitcher and much, much, more...

BEFORE SET-UP: BOXES ALL OVER...

We had an amazing sale over the weekend! A BIG THANK YOU to all who braved the cold and rain and stood in line for almost an hour to get in the door!

BEFORE SET-UP: BINS ALL OVER

Rain and cold had been predicted all week but I kept hoping it would turn out nice. The weather man isn't ALWAYS right! I thought the yucky forecast might deter some from coming but almost an hour before the sale, there were people in line, three deep, umbrellas overhead and WAITING...IN THE RAIN!  Our customers are hearty folk! And they LOVE a bargain! And we are no different! We do the same when we're out hunting for treasures for our sales! Rain doesn't put a damper on FUN!

BEFORE SET-UP: FURNITURE ALL OVER

As always we worry about whether we have enough inventory! But, as always, we end up having MORE than the last sale! We kind of forget what we've bought until we start unpacking things to clean and tag. We opened up another room in order to have more space for items and also to have a bigger space for checking out. We DO "worry" that the lines our customers have to wait in to check out are so long that they get discouraged.  BUT we DO have a "holding room" where we hold our customers items as they look for more treasures. We had three people working the "holds" this time. It gets CRAZY in there! It's hard to keep up for the first hour and a half! People are quickly handing things off to us and then getting back to finding more stuff! They leave their stuff and their name and we tag it and add it to their "pile". We had a college age girl helping in there because I figured she could handle the fast pace! She was a great help but even SHE commented, "THIS IS STRESSFUL!".  There was confusion when there were two men with the same first and last names! One person took B. C.'s stuff and started a pile and another person took stuff from the OTHER B. C. and put it in the same pile! This pile was getting huge when we started to question it and found out that there were TWO B. C's! What are the odds?

These are just a few of the treasures that were available at our sale. I got so busy I didn't have time to take as many photos as I would have liked. We had more furniture than previously, most of which sold. I wish you all could have been there! We had some great stuff! Some great pieces that were hard for me to let go! But I can't keep everything!

So I'm taking a few days off to rest and then it's onto shopping for our next sale over Labor Day weekend!

NEW FINDS

I mentioned in an earlier post I would be sharing some photos of treasures found for our next sales event. I have a few things that are" still in the rough"...in their "just found state". We Hob Nobbers spend the last few weeks before the sale getting the treasures looking like new and restoring them to their finest. We wash, press, sew, scrub, paint and sand. Some things are better left with their old patina but other than those we spend hours getting things ready for the sale like little elves before Christmas.

Here are some things I've picked up that need a bit of washing and pressing, etc. but I wanted to share them with you...

Sorry about the shadow... This is a beautiful vintage quilt. It is already in great shape but after washing to brighten it up, it will  be even lovelier! It is made to be reversible.

Vintage muffin tins, blocks, and an old ladle. I might be using the blocks to make something creative for you.

 

 

 

 

Vintage clothespin bag for someone lucky enough to be able to hang their clothes on a clothesline. I can smell the freshness!

Another vintage clothespin bag. This one is designed to look like a little dress. So cute!

This needs some pressing but it's bright with vivid blue checks! Love this!

A BUSY TWO DAYS

Had a busy week with our daughter, Elissa, and her husband, Jon, being home from  China for a short stint. We celebrated Father's Day early as they had to take a plane out on Saturday. Friday morning Elissa and I took a quick trip to a small town nearby where they were having a vintage sale. This is what I purchased:

It has a vintage doorknob and hooks on it. I'm going to hang it in the guest room that Elissa and Jon use when they're home.

I also found a lovely booth owned by Janis Mineart.  She sells vintage linens, sewing notions, buttons, and lace. She was sweet enough to allow me to take photos of her beautiful things to share here but I forgot to take a photo of HER!

Janis rents space in a nearby shop so I'll be stopping there soon!

In the evening for Father's Day Elissa grilled steak kabobs, wearing her favorite vintage apron from our family collection.

Setting the table for Father's Day, Elissa chose some "new" and some vintage blue and yellow pieces. All the items were purchased at vintage sales, thrift stores, and yard sales including the damask yellow napkins which she tied with blue vintage ribbon.

The next morning we took Elissa and Jon to the airport in Minneapolis. After dropping them off we went to Bachmans to pick up the antique tablecloth ( below ) I had purchased at the Idea House but couldn't pick it  up until the event was over. 

    Notice the scalloped edging. This was an old quilt that was repurposed into a tablecloth. It is in great condition! Should I sell it or keep it???

After picking up the tablecloth we went to Bachman's little cafe and had a HUMONGOUS cup of coffee and some treats!

Ooooh. That coffee looks tempting! I'm going to go get a cup! Thanks for stopping by!
