NEW FINDS TO KEEP

What wings are to a bird, and sails are to a ship, so is prayer to the soul. Corrie Ten Boom

As I shop for items to sell in our Gwen And Alma's shop I often find that I end up keeping a few things for myself! Thats the beauty of this little side business! ; )

So today I'm sharing a couple of ( or a few ) things I kept...at least for now!

This little Antique English Burnt Bamboo Shelf is one recent treasure I had a hard time letting go... so I kept it! I had already found one at an Estate Sale and sold it and then immediately regretted it! So when I saw this one I HAD to have it! Right now it's sitting in a back hallway that is a large enough area to put something in but it needs to be on the smaller side. So it fits the bill.

I also purchased the sweetest little vintage bird picture which I also kept and for now it is sitting on this shelf but I really like seeing the little bamboo slats on the back of the shelf so I may not keep the picture there. I'll probably hang it!

The blue pitcher was a Mom's Day gift and the pot was made by a friend.

Near the shelf is this Scandinavian bench I purchased at an Estate Sale several years ago and I think I'll always keep this, since I'm fully Scandinavian!

I also kept this extra large pillow from an Estate sale that is covered with an antique flour sack!

Recently I was bidding on an online auction and saw a Primitive Milking Stool that I really liked. I finally stopped bidding as the bidding went higher. And then over Mother's Day weekend, my daughter and granddaughter and I went to Gold Rush, an Antique, Vintage and Flea Market, and lo and behold, there it was! How crazy is that? It was in a Scandinavian booth which I stop at when Gold Rush is in town. The owner has a Scandinavian shop in Wisconsin. I asked her if she had just purchased this at a recent online auction and she, of course, said she had! There couldn't be TWO of them, after all!

I had been bidding on it thinking of selling it but now that I saw it in person I decided to buy it for myself! I told my husband he just bought another Mother's Day gift for me!

It's a little more primitive than my living room so I will probably find another place for it! But it's a fun conversation piece and it has a fun story to go with it! Right now it's a plant stand.

Les and I went to the 100 Mile Garage Sale and I picked up this antique mirror...

I'll hang it later but for now it's going to sit on the dresser, which by the way, I purchased at an Estate Sale.

Oh my! I didn't look in the mirror before sharing this. LOL I didn't quite get the bedroom ready for a photo op. This bedroom is used by the grandkids so I keep little cute things on the dresser, including the pixie sitting in the bowl of sand from our "second home" in Panama City Beach, Florida.

On our latest trip to South Carolina, I purchased this vintage embroidered pillow from a cute little gift shop in Old Bluffton. They carried antique and new items.

This little guy, "Baby", is ready for May in blue hat and flowers. I change his head wear monthly according to the seasons.

Enjoy the May flowers!

ANOTHER NEW ADVENTURE

Since my husband started collecting with me we have amassed SO MUCH MORE and have also found some bigger items that fit in well with other "events". So here's what we are going to do: We are renting a space at the Rochester Gold Rush! I'm really excited about it! Since this is our first venture into this type of arena we are not sure what to expect but  we DO  KNOW we'll have fun meeting people with the same love of  antiques, vintage, and old stuff that we have.

This event is  a few weeks before our Hob Nobber sale so you'll have a chance to purchase some of our finds BEFORE our Hob Nobber event.  We'd love to see you all come out and see some of the things we have. Of course a small space at Gold Rush is not even CLOSE to the amount of treasures we will have for you over our Hob Nobber Labor Day weekend event so you won't want to miss that one either!

1930's grocery scale
One of the things we will have for sale at Gold Rush is the scale pictured. It is a 1930's grocery store counter top scale. It is in great condition, still works, and  has amazing graphics! I can see this fun treasure in someone's  large  vintage kitchen or perhaps in a market owned by lovers of vintage. It makes a great conversation piece as well as adding to the great vintage feel! Anyone who loves VINTAGE and FOOD will love this piece!

Graphics on the opposite side
So be sure and put the Rochester Gold Rush on your calendar, August 17-19, along with our  "now annual" Hob Nobber sale!

More Treasured Finds

I went searching for treasures for our event and once again found something for ME! I bought this from a friend who has an antique business. He gave me a deal on it! It is a very unique little wicker and wooden corner chair.....Oops! I left the tag on it! ( see photo above )

Here it is without the tag. Now where to put the chair? Check out the two legs in the back.  I hope it holds people up!

Here are some pussy willows I'm enjoying having around this spring.
......and a close-up of my needlepoint pillow and pitcher.

OH! And don't forget about my Spring Launch coming up May 1st! Stay tuned!

My Victorian Urn

Today I'm sharing something  for , "Show and Tell Friday" over at "My Romantic Home". .  So here's my  large 10 inch tall victorian urn ( in perfect condition ) that I bought at a garage sale a few years ago. I paid more than I usually do for things at a garage sale and yet I knew it was worth it. I was really going to sell it at our Hob Nobber occasional sale because my home is not really "victorian" but then something changed that. It seems that the urn was owned by a 90- something year old lady. Her daughters were having the sale for her by telling her she had to start downsizing and every year she had to pick out some things to sell and they would have a garage sale. OK, well that's nice, I thought and went to pay for the urn. Then one of the daughter's said, "Could you wait and meet my mother because she wants to meet the person who's buying her urn." I said, "sure" and waited until she ran inside to bring her mother out to meet me. I was carrying the precious urn when she haltingly opened the door, and looking very sad, peeked out and looked around. I went over to her ( was she needing to have one last good bye I wondered ) and she asked me, "Where are you going to put the urn? It's been in our family for over 100 years, three generations, and I want it to go to a good home." Well, after that I couldn't tell her that I was going to SELL the urn! I told her I was going to put it in my living room... in a special place...where it would be safe... and cared for...and loved. I realized then and there that I had ADOPTED the urn..to take care of... and love. I told her she could even come up and see where I put it if she wanted to ( since she had asked where I was going to put it ). I was even afraid to put a plant in it in case that would ruin it and I wanted it to be nice if she ever does show up to look at it. So it's kind of a joke in the family when people come and comment on how beautiful it is that my family tells them, "Oh that's an urn that we just adopted from a 90 year old lady. We're just taking care of it for her." So that's my" urn" story. It IS beautiful though, isn't it?
