GWEN AND ALMA'S is now open!!!

I am over the top excited to offer these items for sale online in my new Etsy Shop! If you've been a customer of our Hob Nobber occasional sales, now you will be able to shop all year round!

I'm just starting out with a few items but will be adding more every day until close to Christmas. My shop will be offering vintage decor, Rustic Farmhouse style wares, and Scandinavian finds.

First item listed is this vintage Big Ben Westclox USA alarm clock. This very cute rustic looking clock would look sweet in your vintage decorated home.

OPENING OF ETSY STORE

It has been a long time coming but I'll be ready to open my new Etsy store next Wednesday, November 18th. The name of my store is  named after my two grandmothers...

While Hob Nobbers is a group effort of Karen, Renee,  and I, along with our families, my Etsy store is a business that I am doing on my own. Our Hob Nobber occasional sales will continue over Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, though so don't worry! My new Etsy store will just allow you to shop year round!

Gwen and Alma both have Scandinavian backgrounds and grew up on farms so I will be featuring rustic farmhouse wares, vintage Scandinavian treasures, as well as other vintage items.

Difficult to find vintage dress form. If you use this for decor, you can pull off the knitted outer lining and it has a lovely patina and rustic look underneath. Great also for display of vintage dress wear and jewelry.

           And because both Grandmas had cottages on lakes I'm listing beach chairs! Find them also on my Craigslist listing...( Rochester, Mn, Antiques )

Perfect vintage beach chairs,  the original canvas is still in good condition but can always be easily replaced later. These would look sweet in front of any lake home or cabin or even in your own backyard. Great gift idea for anyone who loves vintage also!

SNEAK PEEK OF GWEN AND ALMA'S TREASURES

Today is the day I'm getting all the treasures together for Gwen and Alma's, my Etsy Shop, ( read about it here ) and taking photos to post. I still need practice taking photos and I'm thinking about buying a new camera. I have always hesitated about getting a nice camera because it seems like there is so much to learn with all the doodads and whatchamacallits to deal with. And I'm kinda feeling like that old saying that goes, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". Hah! But then I realized that I really don't believe that old saying. Rather, I believe that "you're never too old to learn something new". At least that is what I keep telling my 80 -something -year- old Mom. So I guess I have to listen to my own advice.

 

 So I'm looking for a good deal on a nice camera. And in the meantime I'll also be working on setting up some pretty vignettes, another skill I'm working on. So even before I get the photos posted in my Etsy shop, I'm giving you a little sneak peek of some of the treasures I'll be offering for sale. I'll let you know when I'm up and running, probably some time in early November.

And this is just a beginning...I will have 25 items posted the first day and will be adding new items weekly so be sure and check in frequently to see what is available.

ANNOUNCING NEW ETSY SHOP NAME

The name of my new Etsy shop will be...



                                           Gwen and Alma's

These are the names of my two grandmother's and I thought it was fitting to name my shop after them. I'm excited about this new endeavor and also about naming it after them.

They both come from Scandinavian backgrounds and both of my grandfathers ( their husbands, of course ) were entrepreneurs, starting business' of their own.

Gwen and Floyd Arnold started Arnold's Supply Company, a store which sold their own line of cleaning supplies along with an office cleaning service. When I worked as an RN in a hospital here, I often saw cleaning supplies with my grandpa's picture on the front of the container ( Arnold's Toilet Bowl Cleaner, for example ). It seemed strange at the time. I sometimes called out to a patient from the bathroom, "Hey, there's a picture of my Grampa in here!" That caused some puzzled responses from patients! Their cleaning products were used in all the big establishments in the city. The company is still going strong today under the same name though it was sold after their retirement.

Alma and Elmer Danewick started a painting business which also became very successful. At one time they employed 100 painters. The business was passed on down to my Dad and then my brother who is now retired. I now have the original old sign hanging in our family room. Early on he had Larsen as a business partner before he went out on his own. This sign is over 100 years old now.

 At one point when I was in high school, my parents also opened a Scandinavian Gift Shop selling, among other things, hand knit wool Norwegian sweaters made by relatives in Norway. I must have had more than 20 of those sweaters at one time. They never wore out! I still have a few of them and they look like new! The store was called, Dannevig Imports, as that was our "Norwegian name". Our grandfather changed it to Danewick, apparently a more "American name" when he came to America, alone, at the age of 17. How I wish they would have kept that store now! I love Scandinavian decor!

So I come from a long line of entrepreneurs and I've always wanted to be in business. My Hob Nobber occasional sales ( along with business partners, Karen and Renee ) took off and now I'm on to trying my own little spot in the world of Etsy!

Wish me luck! Oh, wait! I don't believe in "luck"! Guess I just better find things people want, price them fairly, and pray people beat a path to my door! Well, I can dream, can't I?

THREE NEW PROJECTS

I'm back from our Disney Trip with the kids and granddkids. I did one blog post while on vacation but then unplugged to just be in the moment with everyone. Once a year we take the kids and grandkids on vacation. Everyone has to pay their own way to get there but we pay for the rest. We are able to do this on a limited retirement income because it is paid for by my Hob Nobber occasional sales income. This Disney Trip took a lot more money so I had to save from more than one sale. But it was worth it! We had a blast! I could have shared about it and showed you all the photos, including one of my husband with "Marilyn Monroe" at Universal Studio, but I didn't want to bore you with family photos. I thought it would be kind of like inviting you over to see slides of our family vacation. But I'm mentioning it because I am writing an eBOOK about how to make money with occasional sales. I'll let you know when it's done.

 

Well, OK, I'll share just one photo... I think he looks a bit too happy, don't you? Hah!

So now I"m ready to get blogging again. I'm also working on a few new projects. One is the eBOOK mentioned above and a second project is opening up my new Etsy shop. I'm a bit nervous about that one because of the shipping...I've not had to deal with that before and I'm still learning. But I'm going to jump in and learn as I go. Any tips on selling on Etsy would be appreciated! Later this week I will be announcing the name of my shop so keep watching for that. Until then, it's a secret!

And the third project is that beginning next Monday morning I will be starting a weekly post to jump start your week, called Monday Morning Java. It will be a short post to motivate, inspire, and
encourage you to get your week off to a great start! There will be tips on how to live life to the full, ideas for simplifying your life, celebrating life, and more! The "Java" part is both for you to read the
post while drinking your morning java, but also because the post itself will be like "mental caffeine" to "wake you up" to the wonderful possibilities ahead.
