VINTAGE TABLECLOTHS AND MORE FUN FINDS

I hope you had a wonderful sunny summer weekend! The summer is flying by! Is it flying by for you as well? Guess we need to get out and enjoy it as often as we can! At least for those of us in Minnesota where we only have it a few months out of the year! I'm trying to take it all in and squeeze every moment out of it!

I'll continue to post some of my finds but remember this is just the tip of the iceberg! We will have thousands of items for sale over Labor Day weekend filling up 7-8 rooms of the Plummer House! Yes, we will be adding yet ANOTHER room this time around! This room will be our Christmas room! Since this event will be the last one for the year we like to offer vintage Christmas decor, including many vintage Christmas tablecloths! More about the Christmas room later!

SOME FUN FINDS AND "MANTIQUES"

Les and I went garage sale-ing this weekend and found some very interesting Hob Nobber "picks". Les found some "Mantiques" ( don't ask me how we classify things as a mantique ) and then while driving through a neighborhood pulling the golf cart trailer behind the car we saw a little bench in a yard with a FREE sign on it. For some reason I'm always kind of embarrassed to stop for the freebies in the boulevards  ( Am I really so desperate that I need to pick up stuff just thrown out on the lawn by people? ). On the other hand, it's FREE! But Les never has this problem so he swung around, jumped out and picked it up. SWEET! But I'm always wondering if people are inside watching to see "WHAT KIND OF PERSON" is going to be THAT DESPERATE!!! They probably even have us on video tape and every year get together with their friends to watch the video of "THE CRAZY PEOPLE WHO PICK UP FREE JUNK ON OUR LAWN!" Or what if some guy is just mad at his wife and just threw out this cute little bench without her knowing it!! YIKES! I don't want to get in the middle of a "DOMESTIC"!  OK So maybe I'm getting a little carried away with POSSIBLE SCENARIOS but just the same...it is VERY UNCOMFORTABLE! Honestly, though? I'm glad LES had nerve enough to pick up the bench! I can make some money on that! Or maybe I'll paint it and give it to one of our granddaughters for their bedroom.  How can you NOT like FREE STUFF! Below are SOME of our "finds" but there's MUCH MORE if these don't suit your fancy!

MANTIQUES ( not just for the men ) Old scale, bait bucket, clock, and beautiful old wall light fixture.

I LOVE LINENS

I LOVE linens! I love the old vintage beautiful linens that were lovingly created by hand. It's probably because MY sewing abilities are so poor that I'm so impressed by those who are able to make these lovely creations by hand. So I thought I'd share a few linens I purchased recently, mostly at our own occasional sale from Karen. Karen, one of the Hob Nobbers, has had a very large collection of vintage pillow cases and tablecloths that she has collected  over the years. In addition, she somehow is able to find the most beautiful linens at thrift sales to sell at OUR event. Renee, Hob Nobber #3, and I add our few pieces of linen to our sales events but I'd have to say that Karen is "The Linen Queen" when it comes to the amount of linens she brings to our sales. Our customers refer to her as the "linen lady".  I buy linens from her at every one of our events and even then I kick myself thinking I should have BOUGHT MORE!


But one of the things that is so great about Karen's linens is HER SECRET for getting those old stains out and making them look like NEW! She is going to share this secret in an upcoming blog so watch for it.


Here are a couple of photos of just the pillow cases we had for sale. I forgot to get photos of the beautiful tablecloths. Actually  I was just way too busy at the sale to get the photos!

And here are some of the things that I bought!  First the pillow cases. I can't pick up the fine detail on these beauties with my camera but they are beautiful!

Here's a cute vintage coverlet that looks like NEW!

The center of this pillow is an old vintage linen towel. Karen pays much attention to detail. Notice the matching heart button on the back of the pillow. 

This is a cute little child's down-filled pillow.

This is a handmade quilt I purchased at an Estate Sale recently. ( not one of Karen's )

 Even though my "gift" is not in the handmade linen category, I've decided to try something new in this arena. So I purchased one of those yo-yo thing-a-ma-jigs and I'm going to try and sew, oh I don't know, maybe a yo-yo quilt or something. I'm picturing a sunny yellow. I've learned that women used to make those yo-yos back in the 1800's because they could take their little supplies anywhere and make the yo-yos wherever they went. So that's what I'm going to do. I'll keep you posted!
