FLOW BLUE DISHES

You can probably tell from my blog header that blue is my favorite color. Check out my blue Pinterest board. I have tons of great blue and white treasures! Blue makes me happy! When I find something "blue" on my hunt for treasures, I have to have it! Even if I'm just going to sell it! Yeah, I'm weird like that. So during a recent antique auction I found myself bidding on some flow blue dishes! FLOW BLUE! And vintage!

If you're  not familiar with Flow Blue, they are  gorgeous dishes made from a special porcelain method  first popular in England in 1825. They are very popular but are always quite pricey so I didn't think I'd be able to afford them but I kept bidding anyway because they were BLUE and not just any old blue...they were FLOW BLUE! And all of a sudden I heard the auctioneer yell, "SOLD...to the Cookmans!" Yes, we know the auctioneer. Wow! I couldn't believe I "won" some FLOW BLUE CHINA! Woot! Woot! Les went up to get them and take them to the car when an elderly gentleman came up to us and told us that these dishes had been given to him and his wife as wedding gifts. He said they never used them because they were so delicate. They just sat as decorations in the China cabinet. He was happy they were able to pass on the history of the dishes and so were we.

Last summer I was at the Estate sale of a woman who was an antique collector but was downsizing. I purchased many of her lovely treasures. But every time I picked up something blue to buy and asked her "How much?" ( as nothing was marked ), she would take a deep breathe, sigh loudly, and say, " We'll, it's flow blue..." And then hesitate a long time. I knew right then I wasn't going to be able to afford it. So I never got any of it. But NOW...I have some!

I'm not sure if I'll keep these or sell them.  But if I sell them, I can promise, you will get a good deal on them!

VINTAGE TABLECLOTHS AND MORE FUN FINDS

I hope you had a wonderful sunny summer weekend! The summer is flying by! Is it flying by for you as well? Guess we need to get out and enjoy it as often as we can! At least for those of us in Minnesota where we only have it a few months out of the year! I'm trying to take it all in and squeeze every moment out of it!

I'll continue to post some of my finds but remember this is just the tip of the iceberg! We will have thousands of items for sale over Labor Day weekend filling up 7-8 rooms of the Plummer House! Yes, we will be adding yet ANOTHER room this time around! This room will be our Christmas room! Since this event will be the last one for the year we like to offer vintage Christmas decor, including many vintage Christmas tablecloths! More about the Christmas room later!

Here are some fun finds:
