My Victorian Urn

Today I'm sharing something  for , "Show and Tell Friday" over at "My Romantic Home". .  So here's my  large 10 inch tall victorian urn ( in perfect condition ) that I bought at a garage sale a few years ago. I paid more than I usually do for things at a garage sale and yet I knew it was worth it. I was really going to sell it at our Hob Nobber occasional sale because my home is not really "victorian" but then something changed that. It seems that the urn was owned by a 90- something year old lady. Her daughters were having the sale for her by telling her she had to start downsizing and every year she had to pick out some things to sell and they would have a garage sale. OK, well that's nice, I thought and went to pay for the urn. Then one of the daughter's said, "Could you wait and meet my mother because she wants to meet the person who's buying her urn." I said, "sure" and waited until she ran inside to bring her mother out to meet me. I was carrying the precious urn when she haltingly opened the door, and looking very sad, peeked out and looked around. I went over to her ( was she needing to have one last good bye I wondered ) and she asked me, "Where are you going to put the urn? It's been in our family for over 100 years, three generations, and I want it to go to a good home." Well, after that I couldn't tell her that I was going to SELL the urn! I told her I was going to put it in my living room... in a special place...where it would be safe... and cared for...and loved. I realized then and there that I had ADOPTED the urn..to take care of... and love. I told her she could even come up and see where I put it if she wanted to ( since she had asked where I was going to put it ). I was even afraid to put a plant in it in case that would ruin it and I wanted it to be nice if she ever does show up to look at it. So it's kind of a joke in the family when people come and comment on how beautiful it is that my family tells them, "Oh that's an urn that we just adopted from a 90 year old lady. We're just taking care of it for her." So that's my" urn" story. It IS beautiful though, isn't it? 1. I have that same urn! Only mine has more pink in it than yellow- and I do have a plant in it because the family that kept it for four generations is MINE and nobody else is coming to check on it!
My kids hate it- but I think it is beautiful!

  6. To the Headmistress-You better make sure your kids don't sell it at a garage sale when you get old! LOL I have seen them in pink and I love THAT color combination also! I might try to figure out how to get a plant in there without wrecking it.

To Linda- I think she was very much relieved and I was HAPPY to keep it! : )

  8. To Hootin' Anni- I had already seen them being sold for more than twice what I paid on the internet but whether they actually sold for that I don't know. I think I got my money's worth, though. Thanks for stopping by. I'll be sure to check out, "My New Doll".
