The Little Princess

One of the benefits of living in this old mansion ( shown here ), apart from the amazing beauty of the grounds surrounding us, is the variety of "always interesting " events going on right on the property. This afternoon as I was preparing dinner, I heard what sounded like the clomp, clomp, clomp of a horse, and looked out the window to see a  lovely horse drawn carriage carrying a little girl dressed up like a princess, complete with tiara. They moved slowly around the circle drive while people where snapping photos ( the papparazzi? ). I ran and got my camera and quickly got off a couple of quick shots ( thus the poor quality ).

Here's our home.

Here's the carriage. I kind of lopped off the horse's head. Need to work on that.

The little princess. Sorry it's a bit fuzzy.

I'm sorry to say I didn't get the "story" about the little princess: Was she a REAL PRINCESS? Was it from the Make A Wish Foundation and this little girl's wish was to be a Princess ( I actually prayed this was not the case)? Was it a special birthday gift from someone to their "Little Princess"? Was it a little girl who demanded, "I WANNA BE A PRINCESS!"? Whatever it was, I took in the whole scene and it seemed magical to me as I watched.  I imagine it was a VERY MAGICAL day for the little girl who got to be a Princess and ride around the mansion in a horse-drawn carriage!

I had to run in and check on my dinner which could have been burning while I was out and decided I would go back out and ask about the circumstances ( however delicately as I don't want to appear nosey ) surrounding this event and even offer to let them come inside the mansion. But when I got back outside they had left. Magical moments are sometimes like that.

  1. Living where you do I guess offers many different encounters. I am sure the little girl was a happy princess for the day - I would be too!

I am not fault finding, but it seems that you should be notified of any events coming your way. Since you live there I would think it would serve everyone if you had some idea what to expect. I hope this was unusual (maybe the coachman just got lost?)

  2. You're right on with saying that we should have been notified. Fortunately there was nothing going on at the time, but if there had been a wedding or other big event we would have had to ask the carriage people to leave. We do run into this problem occasionally and it's just one of the things we have to deal with.

People can be kind of goofy. : )
