TEA WARMS THE HANDS

Tea that helps our head and heart
Tea medicates most every part
Tea rejuvenates the old
Tea warms the hands of those who're cold.  J. Jonker, Amsterdam, circa 1670

It's really cold out tonight. I sit  home, enjoying a cup of Chamomile tea in one of my maternal Grandmother's tea cups trying to keep warm with tea and memories.

I sit in a chair of my fraternal Grandmother's. Already recovered several times, my "style" has changed  yet again and I would like to recover the chair  but it's not even worn! Is it frivolous to do this? I'll probably go ahead and do it anyway : )  It kind of looks like the teacup. The teacup sits on a little blue vintage table I picked up at an Estate Sale.

The inside of the cup is a lovely light creme/yellow below the gold trim.  The colored flowers on it are  sweet and bright. They make me smile. My hands are warmed by the cup, my heart is warmed by remembering grandmothers, and the hot liquid goes down warm.

Made in England, it's very delicate. A Rosina.
If you  peek under the teacup you'll see a pretty vintage hand stitched linen dresser scarf with delicate blue flowers.

I'll make a pillow out of this, I think...with a blue and yellow backing.

  1. Oh l do love your beautiful teacup! Love your chair and little mat too. You are very clever to be able to cover a chair, l have one that is very worn but l am not quite sure how to takle it. I have a Royal Doulton teacup with roses from my english grandmother and a chair from my dear austrailian grandmother. Enjoy your tea in your lovely cup :-) Pam xx

    1. Guess I might have stated that wrong because I didn't recover the chair myself. WISH I were that clever! Thanks for stopping by!

    1. It's sometimes not so good being a "picker" as I want to keep changing things around as I see new things. Restraint is needed. :)

  8. Oooh I love your beautiful tea cup! And how wonderful that it belonged to your grandma.. What a great memory and the chair is beautiful as well. I have a fondness for coffee mugs but this post is piquing my interest in tea cups. I watched a show once about having tea with the Queen.. So many rules but wouldn't it be amazing?? I love this post. Thank you for sharing. :)

  9. Hi Sandy,
    Thanks for visiting my blog.

Your tea cup matches with the fabric of the chair very well. They are like twins.

Please do check out 'The hunger games'. The film reminds us to live life with love, faith and kindness. I admire the protagnists' courage, intuition and respect for nature. With high techology nowadays, if we dont watch out, we will be heading to a place very similar to Panem.

    Hugs,

    Felicity

  11. Dear Sandy,
You're quite right, tea is the perfect drink for Winter time, it warms the hands and the whole body...
As to your grandmother's chair, that chintz fabric is so beautiful, like the lovely chintz cup, I wouldn't change it so soon.
And I would certainly fall for that embroidered doily(?) or mat(?)
    Hugs

  13. Hi Sandy,
thank you so much for your visit and the kind comment. Your inherited some wonderful things. The Chintz tea cup is marvellous and the design of the chair goes so nicely with it. Thats a pretty tea time. I wouldn't recover the chair, maybe a nice antimacassar would change the view for a while.
    Best greetings, Johanna

Your grandma's teacup is gorgeous; love chintz! I love to warm my hands on a teacup on a cold day, and it is cold today! It's nice to have your other grandma's chair too. Personally, I like the fabric on it. Enjoyed your tea poem too. Thank you for joining me for tea and have a beautiful day.
