WHIMSICAL FINDS

Nothing is impossible, the word itself says, "I'm possible". Audrey Hepburn

I don't know if it's blogger or my computer but "something" won't let me download new photos. I've read a couple of blog posts where others were having the same problem but thought it must have been cleared up by now. So if anyone could give me some advice about what how to fix this I'd appreciate it.

In the meantime, not wanting to wait on blogger, I thought I'd share a few unique whimsical finds that I've sold at our sales or kept for myself. These photos have been on my computer a while so blooger     oops! blogger allows me to post.

First up is this little guy. Can you guess what he is?

I found him at a flea market and I kept him for a while because I thought he was so unique and I loved the color. He sat around in our teal colored bedroom for a while until I decided to let him go. Here's a closer look...

OK here's a hint: His cap comes off...

He's a LIQUOR BOTTLE!  You put little shot glasses in the "baskets" he's holding ( see photo one ) and on his back he has a place for olives or whatever would go in that particular drink. Or so I was told. Since I don't drink and have never had one of these I had to listen to an expert.

Next up is this black Americana folk art piece. Anyone want to guess what this guy is?

He's a CIGARETTE BUTT HOLDER. A small pail full of sand would fit in the ring he's holding in order to put out your cigarette. Matches could be kept in the  little tin cylinder.

I decided to keep this guy. No, I don't smoke either. ; )  But I found a small metal pail that fits in the ring he's holding and painted it with chalk paint ( like a chalk board ). I wrote the word "keys" on it with chalk and we now have a handy place to drop our keys in when we come in the door. This is a reproduction but I saw an exact "real one" on the internet selling for $1,000.

You don't have to guess this one! This poor worn out Santa is very old. You KNOW I had to keep HIM! The fun thing about HIM is that he has feet that walk if you put him on an incline.  He's so much fun to watch, that we kept him walking relentlessly when we first got him... until apparently he tired out and one of his feet fell off. No problem... we fixed him and he's up and walking again! He's a keeper even though he's worn out and funny looking. I  like vintage Christmas whimsies.

This next whimsy is a lady with a frightened look on her face. Any guesses as to what SHE is?  OK I won't make you wait any longer. She's a RAG BAG! The front of her is buttoned so you can stash rags in her ( hopefully the clean ones ). Hob Nobber Karen brought her to sell so I, liking whimsies, had to buy her. (We buy a lot of each other's stuff)  ; )  She hangs in my laundry room holding some of my rags. But I have so many rags, I also have a vintage baby bassinet holding the bulk of my rags.

I love beautiful things to decorate with as well but I'm always on the lookout for the unique and whimsical!
What whimsies have YOU found in your hunt for treasures?

Join me Mondays here at Hob Nobbers for 8 weeks of the "workshop" LIVE YOUR DREAM LIFE NOW"! First session was January 7th!

UPDATE: I just found the answer to my blogger problem and wanted to check it out so I snapped this of some of my rusty silver. YAAAYYYYYYY! it works!

I was having LOTS of trouble a week or so ago with my pictures. The only thing that I did different is changed from IE as my browser to Google Chrome...they want us to be "ALL" in I guess. Also, I use picasa for my pictures. Hope you can get things working for you. Please let me know what you figure out!
    Blessings,
    Cindy

  3. Hello :-) firstly to your picture proplems. I had the same and was told to download google chrome! As blogger is owned by google, they want us to use their tool instead of eg. Internet explorer - that l have been using. With Google Chrome downloaded l find that the downloading of pictures is working as normal...thank goodness :-). Now to your treasures, l absolutely love your rag bag and that wonderful little Santa! Of course you had to keep him, he is such fun and so sweet. Pam x

    1. I followed this advice and it worked! Thanks! Just can't figure out why Google doesn't send an e-mail telling us about how to do this in advance. You have to hunt around for it! Go figure...

  5. Unfortunately it isn't a temporary problem. You have to download and install Google Chrome to fix it. Google owns blogger and they have fixed it so you have to use their search engine. Just go to Google and type in download Google Chrome. It's easy.

    Laura

  7. Love your vintage goodies! I keep thinking about starting an online store at etsy or ebay but it sounds so complicated and time consuming to me. Let me know how it goes if you take the plunge!

    1. I DID sell a few things locally on Craigslist but that didn't involve shipping and mailing. The next step for me might be e-bay as you don't have to commit in having a "store" with lots of items. If I don't mind the shipping and handling too much then I'll go to Etsy next. How to charge for shipping sounds complicated to ME! Anyway, one step at a time and we'll see what I like best! I'll keep you posted.

    2. I've done a few things on craigslist too but have to be so careful especially listing expensive items - that's how so many find themselves robbed! I agree, it's what to charge for the shipping that gets complicated for online stuff and we have to have all the packing stuff at home and get it mailed out in a timely manner - and hope things don't get broken in shipping. That's all had for me since I work full time, the post office is closed by the time I get home from work. Keep me posted with your progress!
