BLACK AND WHITE TEACUP

I was looking for a nice cup and saucer to share with you today that I hadn't shared before and came across this unique one, a Eugene Trost for Upsala Ekeby from Sweden. It's not very Easter-y however.

All of my cups and saucers belonged to my grandmother who collected them. I had not shared this one before because it didn't fit the "pretty" category. I wondered why someone had even given this to my grandmother as most of her cups and saucers were gifts and this wasn't" pretty". Though it WAS unique. Maybe they bought it was because she was Swedish and this cup was from Sweden.

Can you guess the name of the pattern?
                                                                            Yup, it's Zebra.

I guess I'll plop down here in the family room ( aka husband's man cave ). The cup looks cute in here, don't you think? This room has a lot of black and natural "color" in it but I'm working on adding more bright color. It needs a make-over and brightening up.  My husband picked up this old vintage phone which weighs a ton to pick up so I mostly try to avoid answering it.

Even though this is the place where my husband hangs out ( man cave ) I still sneak some vintage pieces in, here and there, like this end table/cupboard.

But he still has his BIG SCREEN TV and VCR and DVD players!

Yeah this room is definitely my next big make-over project! It's not really as dark as it looks with these black pieces. You'll have to wait to see the whole room when I do the make-over.

But I DID look up my cups on the internet to find out more information. I was surprised to find them on eBay selling for $600 for four sets! Wow! Does that mean my little Zebra cup and saucer might be worth $150? But alas, it's not for sale. It will just be passed down to my daughter.

  2. You're right, Sandy, your tea cup is unique and one of those items that I'm sure will be among the sought after antiques of the future. I think it falls under the category of art pottery of the 20th century, so lucky you to have inherited it!!!
Thanks for sharing this special set.
    Happy Easter!

  9. Wow, I have never seen a cup so graphic and striking as this! I actually like it despite it not being 'pretty'- it has it's own charm. I think it would look fabulous mixed with some black ad white toile cups or black and white polka dot cups. On a black and white themed table you could add either a pop of red, pink or yellow and have a stunning look. Thanks for sharing this unusual cup.
    Happy Easter :)

  10. Sandy ... thanks for stopping by for tea. Wow this is a very unique teacup and saucer .. though it goes brilliant with that phone and vintage piece. It would be wonderful to discover how that teacup came to your grandmother and what how the gifter came to choose it. Happy Tuesday...xo C.(HHL)

  12. A very unusual cup and saucer and the Zebra mark on the back is very fitting. The black and white is definitely a nod to the Zebra coloration! Glad your grandma had such a great collection to pass on to your daughter! Happy Easter!

  16. Pretty cool cup! Nice to know it's a keeper either way, huh? We retired our vintage phone when we retired our land line. I used to hate to hear it ring. Now I miss a regular ring tone. Go figure. Anyway, both look sensational in that room!

  17. It is a dramatic cup, and so appropriately named. I know quite a few people who would love the cup & saucer. Your husband's man cave looks like a place most men I know would love and I think they'd even love to drink coffee or tea from that cup.

  20. Hi Sandy,
your Zebra cup is pretty in its own way. It fits perfect in the room. It looks as if Eugen Trost was a star designer, because that design is often found by google. What a treasure to have it. Thank you for sharing and for your visit and the kind comment on my blog.
    Best greetings, Johanna
