I had been reading several blogs lately where people were finding some pretty nifty stuff on Craigslist. I admit it...I started getting a bit envious. I had never had any luck buying things on Craigslist. Every time I would find something I liked, it would end up being sold. I finally figured out the trick to finding treasures on Craigslist. You have to check it out EVERY DAY.
So even though I wasn't looking for something specific, I decided to quickly scroll through the local listings every day JUST IN CASE I might miss something nifty! And lo and behold I came upon a treasure! This cute metal vintage grocery store display. Isn't it adorable? I purchased this little cutie for $35. I think it was a bargain! Sorry, folks, this won't be for sale. This is for ME! Well, for NOW anyway!
And I had the perfect spot for it in a little room off the living room. We could never agree on what to call this little room....breakfast room, den, little TV room...anyway, the display is now a magazine rack! I was thinking about putting a small bookshelf in there for books and magazines but this turned out to be an even better option! I plopped one of the kettles up there for now...just because it was red and I hadn't put them away yet.
So that's my tip for the day...Scroll through Craigslist every day! Even when you're not looking for something specific! You just might happen upon the perfect treasure you didn't even know you were looking for!
Oh and for those of you who are following my new style transformation, this also fits my new style (being metal) but because it is red it fits into THIS room . This room is red and mustard yellow. While the living room is blue with mustard yellow.

You're right about checking CL everyday if you are on the hunt for something, they go fast! I was on the hunt for an antique buffet and I checked for three months. It finally paid off and wow did I get a deal! And it included the matching china hutch.
ReplyDeleteThe red cart is really cute and I love the wheels on it!
I'll be honest, CL scares me. There were some really bad crimes committed by way of CL ads. I tried to find a job on there and they were all scams.
ReplyDeleteJoJo,
DeleteI DO try to be careful and don't meet anyone alone. Everyone I've worked with from Craigslist has been great but I know there are crazy people out there so I don't take chances.
I also think that most reputable business' don't advertise on Craigslist so I can believe there are job scams on it.
LOVE IT!!! What a great stop to store the magazines!

Oh I love it! I've been eyeing one at a nearby antiques mall for the longest time (it's not awesome red, though). You might have convinced me to go buy it! Looking around your website, we have the same taste in antiques and vintage goodies, that's for sure. Take care - Dawn @ We Call It Junkin
ReplyDeleteSandy,
ReplyDeleteI love the red cart. Red is my color too.... Thanks for following me. You may wanna look for me on Bloglovin and follow there since GFC is going away next week. I will look for you there.
Hugs,
Valerie
That is adorable! I do look at Craig's List every day. The only problem I run into is that the Dallas area is huge and often times the item I want is an hour or more away. I keep looking though. We bought two beautiful custom made parsons chairs for our dining room for $120/both chairs. They are like new!
ReplyDeleteHello Sandy,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love Craig's list for selling on, but I haven't had luck buying there. That is a great tip to find the most recent adverts.
Your red stand here is fabulous! It works just great as you have it. The red is perfect! Yay for you!
Hugs,
Terri
That is a cute cart. Thank for the tip. You are onto the right idea.

Oh my, I LOVE seeing your special treasures! Red is my favorite color, too.
ReplyDeleteOh, that was a buy!!! I love it and it has wheels...Perfect. I haven't had much luck with Craigs list either, one time I went to the house to pick something up and no one answered the door! But, like you, I sure have seen some treasures found and now you're one of them!

I discovered the same thing on the Norwegian finn.no , l kept missing things! As you say, check every day. A fun purchase you made, suits very well as a magazine rack. Off to bed up here in the north end of the world, good night :-) Pam xx
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love your little red rack. It's one of a kind and not so easy to find another, so I'll just be content to be jealous. LOL Congrats on your craigslist find. Your blog is so much fun. Sandra
