WINTER

Winter... "There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you...in spring, summer, and fall people sort of have an open season on each other: only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself."     Ruth Stout

We finally got some snow here and it was quite beautiful coming down. And then after the snowfall it looked like this...

There is a circle drive encircling a grassy area with a large stone flowerpot on a pedestal in the center of the grassy area. Before I took this someone came and made circles in the snow around the pot. ; (
Les said it was probably one of those  alien circle things.

The house is very long...The photo below is taken from the section above, on the right,  that has the window seemingly half way down the house.  ( does that make any sense to you? ) That window is on a stairway landing which is between our personal living quarters ( we like to say we live in the West Wing ) and the main part of the house.

Snow covered bushes have white lights like the trees but they were covered up by the snow.

So the whole space shown above is where we live. There is a small area in the middle ( right behind the light )  that has a shorter roof line. This is our "little TV room". There are interesting stories about all these spaces which I'll share in another post. And below is the end of our home. You can see our front door in the middle of the photo. The lighted windows on the left are our living room/dining room and the windows on the right are our family room.

Even though it is lovely to be outside, I find I also like the coziness of staying inside in a warm home on a wintry day and having quiet stretches of time.

I set some "fun intentions" for the year and one of them is to read at least one book a month. Think I'll  to head to the "library" and find one...and maybe a cup of hot cocoa.

I hope you can find some longer quiet stretches of time to savor this winter.
